Cuy

By the time we arrived in Pisac after our hike down from the ancient city, my stomach was grumbling. A group of us went with Professor Falconi to a small outdoor restaurant that specialized in cuy (guinea pig). The restaurant had a little cage built into one of the side walls where approximately 12 guinea pigs were scurrying around. I consider myself very adventurous and had wanted to try as much Peruvian food as possible, but after seeing the furry little animals playing in the cage, I was starting to have second thoughts about trying cuy. However, I sat down at the table, and ordered a whole cuy to split with six other people. I wasn’t able to finish the cuy, every time I took a bite, I could hear the live guinea pigs moving around behind me. Additionally, the meat was rather tough, and it tasted pretty gamey, but I am glad I tried it. Overall, the restaurant was such a cool spot, very local, and amazing pizza.
